Healthy Vegetables
Which vegetables are best for your faithful dog? Broccoli, peas, beans, cucumber, celery, spinach, Brussels sprouts, and carrots are all vegetables that your dog can eat without any problems. It is best to give your dog vegetables as a tasty snack. Always make sure that you do this in moderation.
Raw vegetables are more difficult for your dog to digest than lightly cooked vegetables. Therefore, if you want to give your dog vegetables, it is best to purée or lightly cook them. Your four-legged friend can not only enjoy a tasty snack but also absorb the vitamins and minerals from the vegetables.
Unhealthy Vegetables
Many vegetables that are completely natural for us are not suitable for your dog. For example, mushrooms and fly agarics. We love them, but they can make your dog very sick. Read more about this in our blog. Vegetables such as onions, leeks, and chives are also very unhealthy for dogs. In fact, this vegetables is toxic to most pets. If your dog eats these vegetables, this can lead to diarrhoea and stomach pain. Therefore, make sure that your dog does not eat them.
Vegetables with starch
Because a dog cannot digest starch well, it is important to give only small amounts. Give your dog only a piece of potato and not a whole one. That’s because a potato consists mainly of starch. Giving your dog an uncooked potato is just as toxic as it is for humans. Potatoes contain many different vitamins. They contain iron and magnesium as well as vitamins C and B6. These vitamins are building blocks for your dog’s body. Many tubers also contain a relatively high amount of starch; this makes them more difficult for your dog to digest. This is another reason why you should give only small pieces of tubers and not large quantities.
Healthy fruit
Does your four-legged friend love fruit? Of course, you want to spoil it only with fruit that is really healthy for it. Fruit contains many antioxidants that can neutralise the free radicals in your dog’s cells. This will keep your dog healthy for longer. That’s what we all want for our best friend: Healthy fruit for your dog: pineapple, apple, banana, blackberries, blueberries, mango, watermelon, melon, peach, pears, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. Always make sure to remove the seeds from the fruit. These are not good for your dog.
Unhealthy fruits
As a general rule, the seeds in the fruit are not good for your dog. It is therefore advisable not to give your dog grapes, cherries, and avocados. Currants and sultanas are made from grapes and are therefore not good for your dog.
Limes and lemons are also not good for your dog. It may be tempting to give your dog lots more fruit and vegetables. Make sure that your dog’s diet consists of no more than 10–15% fruit and vegetables. Your dog gets most of its energy from the following nutrients: Proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
